I can relate an actual experience from the Heart of Dixie 2005, 9 dogs all stuck at 1660 lbs., cart/carpet, 3 of them were mine so it's still as vivid as it happening yesterday. I think pneumatic tire pulls would show the most significant difference, those tires were a bit low so the block stacks wouldn't reach the rafters like the year before. None the less when the judge allowed a slight snatch in the slack 3 of them went on to pull 1 to 2 more times before it was bogged down again where none of them could budge it.
We were all studying the chute as well and noticed there was a very small dip right in from of the left wheel. Once it became loaded down, leaning into it wasn't going to move it. It was like trying to pull a flat out of a rut just to get it going.
I think the extra burst of force would definitely get the weight moving no matter what type of competition but it's even more evident when you consider an Iron-Dog sled pull. If most of those dogs were just leaning into a sled when the weight gets really heavy instead of ramming it over and over again most wouldn't get to the finish line, same way when snatching against the sled of an ice pull. They would never be able to break against the hold from the ice to get it going. I think all of this proves a definite difference.
