He was not voted in a Liberal, if he didn't want to sit as an independent he should have quit. This will be one seat the new party can count on, with the next election. Nobody likes a turn coat, especially maritimers.

The new party will gain in stature, while the Liberals have gained only a problem that Harper is happy to not have on his plate for the coming election.

Another disservice to canadian voters.Mr.Brison was elected to parliament as a tory and should so remain until the writ is dropped for the next election and then switch parties.Failing that there should be a mandatory by-election in his riding before he is allowed to sit in the house. The same rule should apply to all party defectors of whatever political stripe. The electorate in every riding votes for a party representative who owes the voters his or her service for the term of the government.I have heard the argument from the party leaders that the electorate elects an individual rather that the party. I say if such were the case we should have nothing during the campaign and the ballots except individual names without party association. When the individual is elected, then and only then should their political stripe be revealed.Failing that we as voters"DO"elect by political party and the by-election rule should come into effect upon every defection.

I am simply shocked by Brison defecting to the Liberals. I was sure he would want to join his party pal Svend over at the NDP's. To all you Alliance bashers - don't forget who we voted for before the Reform Party and Erik the Red, that was a great message - right up until the last sentence.

Just change to true colours. The Liberals in the PC will move there, as for many polititions they will go to the party that they think they will win a seat in.

He did not leave the PC party, the PC party left everyone, which would make him an independant. It does not however give him the right to switch to another party. That is up the people to decide in the next election.

I am glad to see that those Conservatives with integrity are leaving the 'Regressive Conservative Party of Canada.' They are ones that have a vision as opposed to the 'abortion conservative' party that has been created. These 'regressives' will do more damage to Canada than good with their 19th century thinking. How can Canadians trust a party of liars. Stockwell Day supporters that back stabbed Preston Manning (who would have made a great PM) and lied about Day's grassroots support (claimed thousands when in fact it was 3 people). Or Stephen Harper who is nothing more than an Alberta Separtist who called for firewalls to be built around Alberta to protect it from the Feds. This individual wants to be a national leader when he can't see pass the end of his separtist nose! Canadians will soon see what the 'regressives' are truely about and that is the dismantling of Canada. We don't need the Parti Quebecois to do that when we have Alberta Tories for that!

I think we all know what Brian Mulroney said: "There's no....". I think the timing of Mr. Brison's departure says volumes about the man. He votes for the merger and before anyone knows who is elected leader or what the policies will be, he bolts. How can he say he's against what the party stands for or who leads it if that hasn't been determined yet? I personally think Mr. Brison is a disgrace, and I know a lot of fellow Tories who are extremely embarassed to have supported him in the leadership. However, I guess we dodged a bullet on that one--if he was elected leader and didn't like what came out of the policy process, he might have merged the Tories with the Liberals. So much for principled leadership. Why not stay and fight for your beliefs and then leave? I guess Mr. Martin yelled "jump". You're a small fish in a big pond, Mr. Brison. Just one more trained seal.

The Conservative's scare him, but he's at home with the arrogance, greed and corruption of the Liberal party? Give me a break! The Conservatives can definitely do without that attitude.

His glaring lack of integrity should disturb anyone who took the time to vote, regardless of political affiliation. Forget the party names, politicians that switch parties without consulting their constituents is the real problem here. Add Brison's name to the list of unprofessional cowards that should never have been elected.

Pure political opportunism by Mr. Brison. To not stay on and help to shape policy in the new party is total cowardice. I hope the folks in Kings-Hants punt this guy!

the media is making a big deal over the Brisson "defection", suggesting that it is a negative for the new party. In fact, this is the best of all possible scenarios. The new Conservative Party needs to be just that... CONSERVATIVE. Others of the Joe Clark, Scott Brisson ilk, who are really liberals anyway should go where they would feel the most at home and leave the rest of us to construct a truly national Conservative option, in which the majority of hard working Canadians will find a home.
