It's very important, the ego. Think of what would happen if what you refer to as "I" were to suddenly not be availible anymore.First you would have no memories! Because you are now possessed by an entity that doesn't recognise any of what 'you' did, because as far as it's concerned, there is no 'you' - 'you' just thought there was.
A lot of folk got swept away in those mass-possessions, changed their names, pretend to themselves they are not the same people they were, run away from it. It's a thing, it has the biggest ego of all - it's not God, I know it, because it tried to take me too. It's evil beyond belief.
It tried to get me to think I was someone else, one time I was tripping on LSD, and it was trying to make me think my name was a different name to the one I have (not a past life sort of thing or anything of the sort - it can't deal with those realities) and I was like, "um no I think you'll find I'm XXXXX and that's always been my name in this incarnation, you must be mistaking me for someone else",
I thought nothing of it, it was very much on the upper-aethers it seemed and just another telepathic dialogue that goes on over and above regular reality etc -
but later I met this couple, I went to see a talk they did ; the next time I saw them, one had changed their name - and her persona - and it was to that name that that thing was trying to tell me was my name.
And yes, they turned out to be completely insane and I had to escape.
