Conventional Islamic culture has treated women like dirt. But so has ALL fundemntal religion, not just Islam. The Bible says "suffer not a woman to speak before a man" or something. It was only at the Coucil of Trent in 1544 that the church decided that women had souls; and that was only by three votes!
