A sundial has to be CALIBRATED to match up with a clock. You have to rotate the sundial so it's calibration matches that of the clock.
Then surprise, surprise, the clock matches the sundial gradients because they both use the same logic to dissect a pre-selected interval.
You know, I have two pieces of wood that are both the same length. I put a mark half way on each one and guess what?
You won't believe this.
The marks are in EXACTLY the same place on both pieces.
Bloody amazing that isn't it?
Well, I say exactly but both pieces are fifty miles long and I measured the marks with a six inch ruler.
And I had to cut one inch off the ruler to make the second match the first.
I wonder what that reminds me of?
How many times have we adjusted time to fit the calendar again?
